Could the Atlanta Braves Be Perfected by the Application of the "Sapp Analogy"?
If you were watching the miraculous Colts - Buccaneers game last night, you were treated to an...as much as I hate to admit... amazingly insightful interview with Warren Sapp on the Bucs success under head coach, Jon Gruden...you know, Popeye... The analogy he used in his explanation made perfect sense and, in my opinion, should be applied to our own Atlanta Braves. Sapp spoke of Tony Dungy coming into a dirty unorganized kitchen, where no one wanted to go, let alone eat. Dungy cleaned up the filth, organized the kitchen, put the pots where the pots go and the dishes with the dishes, glasses with the glasses, you get the picture. His recipes brought respectability and slowly people began to eat there again. Down home cooking done well, put lacking just the same. Then Gruden steps in, thinks to himself," Hmmm, what a clean kitchen", Opens the oven and finds a cake, a Dungy cake. Gruden begins to add the finishing touches, the proper icing, the right decorations, and that little extra something that had been missing, the candles. Once the candles were lit, the cake was now complete. Bobby Cox is an accomplished manager, after all he's lead the Braves to twelve straight division titles. He cleaned up the Braves' kitchen, everything's in its place. But his cake... it needs icing.
