Moral Turpitude ?!

Afraid I'm on a soapbox today. I was listening to a radio broadcast on my way home tonight harping on the moral degradation of the youth in our society. To borrow a phrase from Dennis Miller, "I don't want to get off on a rant here, but", what exactly do people think has caused this degradation? I think we are all born with an inherent moral instinct and it is the duty of the parents to cultivate it. Family values are pretty much shot to hell...pardon my French...divorce is so commonplace, kids think its cool to have umpteen dozen grandparents...heck, even a few of THEM are shacking up... more gifts at birthdays and Christmas. As recently as twenty years ago, any moral dilemma was easily handled. All you had to do was ask yourself what would granddad or grandma have done. With family ties stretched so thin, some kids don't have the opportunity to take advantage of interaction with this 'elder' generation. Even when interaction is acclimated, it's generally not long enough for any sort of influence to take hold. And what to do about the influence that may not be helpful, i.e., the adulterous parent, divorced grand-parents, abusive family members. Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it seem strange how quickly the malefactor in a divorce hypocritically turns to the church in a self-righteous attempt at acceptance...divorce is born of man's laws not God's...while the other partner, shamed by their failed marriage, is forced to suffer the indignation and then shuts out that which may could give them the most support and comfort. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. Nothing is worse than hypocrisy to me, and I guess I am a little to quick to condemn it...

Ok, enough ranting. I've graciously uploaded a couple more essays at Irrational Noise... Hometown Institution and Trujillo Triumph...Please check them out and let me know what you think!!!
